International cooperation among universities is not just a word, as the intense joint activity carried out by the naval engineering section of the University of Trieste (Italy) and the Universidad Católica Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo de Chiclayo (Peru) highlighted. The main purpose of this partnership was to train the naval engineers of the young Peruvian university. The cooperation in the scientific development and technical design in the naval sector was of a similar nature, both in the coastal region of northern Peru and in the Amazonian hinterland. There, unavoidable needs for river navigation were identified, with particular reference to medical and health emergencies, which needed to be answered through the construction a naval clinic in the great basin of the Amazon River.
